Tunis has been ranked 502nd globally in the Oxford Economics Global Cities Index 2026, leading Tunisia’s three cities in the 1,000-city assessment. Sfax placed 588th and Sousse 698th, with none of the Tunisian cities entering the top third of the global ranking.
The index measures cities across five dimensions: Economics, Human Capital, Quality of Life, Environment and Governance.
Tunis performed best in Human Capital, ranking 216th globally. It placed 493rd in Environment, 514th in Governance, 613th in Quality of Life and 737th in Economics. Sfax’s strongest result was Environment at 179th, followed by Governance (507th), Quality of Life (514th), Human Capital (681st) and Economics (758th). Sousse also performed best on Environment, ranking 401st, and placed 514th in Governance, 678th in Quality of Life, 643rd in Human Capital and 886th in Economics.
The results show differing strengths: Tunis benefits from a relatively strong human-capital base, while Sfax and Sousse recorded their best positions in environmental indicators.
