The Association of Tunisian-Japanese Friendship (AATUJA) has been awarded the 2026 Foreign Minister’s Commendation of Japan, in recognition of its longstanding efforts to strengthen friendship, mutual understanding and cultural exchange between Tunisia and Japan.
Since its establishment in Tunisia, AATUJA has played an active role in fostering closer ties between the two peoples, with the support of prominent Tunisian figures, including the then Minister of Regional Development and Planning.
Over the years, the association has organized a wide range of events and activities aimed at introducing Japanese culture to Tunisian audiences. These have included conferences and workshops exploring various aspects of Japanese culture and traditions, particularly Japanese gardens, the art of flower arrangement known as Ikebana, and the traditional art of paper folding, Origami.
AATUJA has also developed exchange programs with Japanese friendship associations and organizations, while maintaining close communication with the ambassadors and diplomatic missions of both countries. These initiatives have helped create lasting channels for dialogue.
