Title: Tunisia Ranks 6th in Africa in 2026 ICT Development Index, ITU Report Shows

Tunisia has placed sixth in Africa on the 2026 ICT Development Index (IDI) with a score of 80.1, far exceeding the continental average of 59, according to the ITU.

While 99% 3G coverage and 90.9% mobile ownership bolster its standing, affordability remains a critical barrier—mobile service costs consume 98.6% of GNI per capita.

Morocco tops the continent at 89.2, followed closely by Mauritius (89.1), Algeria (87.8), and South Africa (86.4). Globally, Saudi Arabia leads with 99.2, while Africa remains the world’s least digitally developed region, with Angola ranking lowest on the continent at 55.4 and countries like Chad and Niger at the global bottom.

The findings underscore an urgent need for targeted investment to bridge Africa’s persistent connectivity gap.
