Qatar Charity Funds Modern Primary School in Gafsa to Alleviate Classroom Overcrowding

The Governorate of Gafsa has formalized a partnership with Qatar Charity for the construction of a new, fully-equipped primary school.

The agreement was signed Tuesday in a ceremony overseen by Gafsa Governor Mr. Slim Ferouja and Ms. Karima Boussalmi, Director of the Qatar Charity Office in Tunisia. The project targets the Al-Amal neighborhood in the Om Laarayes delegation, an area identified as needing enhanced schooling facilities.

Slated for completion at an estimated cost of 3 million Tunisian dinars, the new institution is designed as a modern, integrated educational complex. Plans include 10 classrooms, a dedicated computer lab, administrative offices, and a sports field complete with changing rooms. The school will also feature separate sanitary facilities for staff, male students, and female students, with a total capacity to accommodate approximately 260 pupils.

Governor Ferouja hailed the agreement as a benchmark for public-development sector collaboration. “This partnership represents a successful model of cooperation between regional authorities and development-supporting organizations,” he stated during the signing event. He emphasized the critical need to align such projects with the “actual priorities and needs” across Gafsa’s various delegations.

Officials express hope that the initiative will mark the beginning of expanded future cooperation. Governor Ferouja voiced optimism that the partnership with Qatar Charity would extend into other vital development sectors, ultimately benefiting the broader region and its residents.

The project directly aims to strengthen the educational infrastructure in Om Laarayes and improve overall learning conditions, potentially easing pressure on existing schools in the district.
