Tunisia Enters New Surgical Era with First Robotic Digestive Procedure

Tunisia has marked a milestone in its medical history with the successful completion of its first robotic digestive system surgery. The landmark operation was performed last Tuesday at Charles Nicolle Hospital in Tunis.

The 45-minute procedure, led by Dr. Ramzi Nouira and his team in collaboration with the anesthesia department headed by Dr. Aliya Jebri, was carried out safely and with high precision. The Ministry of Health confirmed the surgery was free of any post-operative complications.

This new technology signals a major breakthrough for the country’s healthcare sector. It offers enhanced surgical accuracy, complete movement control, and 3D magnified vision, which contributes to shorter hospital stays and improved patient care quality.

During a visit to the patient, Minister of Health Mustapha Ferjani, accompanied by South Korean Ambassador Lee Tae-won, underscored the strategic importance of this achievement. Minister Ferjani stated that this initial success forms the cornerstone of a national strategy to expand robotic technology across various medical specialties and regions, with the ultimate goal of establishing Tunisia as a regional hub for robotic surgery and smart medicine.

Ambassador Lee reaffirmed South Korea’s commitment to supporting Tunisia in health technology and medical development, signaling a new chapter in bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
