Tunisia earmarks $2.2bn for energy by 2025

Tunisia plans to spend 7.1 billion Tunisian dinars ($2.2 billion) on developing its energy sector by 2025. This includes renewable energy projects. The country aims to increase its reliance on solar and wind power to 35 per cent over the next six years and reduce electricity imports from Algeria and Libya.

Tunisia imported almost 14% of its electricity supply in the first nine months of this year. The rest was provided by the domestic grid. According to a report, the government intends to allocate funds to support the energy sector and ensure sufficient subsidies to limit any price increases, according to the draft budget law for 2025. Solar and wind energy projects are expected to enable Tunisia to produce nearly 4850 MW of green electricity by 2030.
