Dr Mohamed Chandoul was honoured by the Governor of the Emirate of Sharjah, Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, for his participation in the creation of the Arabic language complex in the United Arab Emirates. This project brought together several Arabic language specialists from various Arab countries, and Dr Chandoul represented Tunisia.
Dr. Mohamed Chandoul is a Tunisian linguist who has taught at a number of Tunisian universities. He is also president of several scientific institutions and is active in numerous associations devoted to language and linguistics.
The Arabic Language Complex in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, has announced an unprecedented cultural achievement: the printing of 127 volumes of the ‘Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language’. This first dictionary of its kind in the Arab world documents the evolution of words and meanings through the ages, and aims to preserve linguistic identity while strengthening the bond of generations with the language of their ancestors.
The announcement was made at a press conference organised as part of the Sharjah International Book Fair 2024. This monumental project, which took seven years to complete, involved some 700 teachers and experts from various Arab countries.
