Tunisia seeks developers for 200 MW solar capacity

Tunisia has launched a tender through its Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy to allocate 200 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity, renewablesnow reports.

Interested developers can submit their proposals to the Central Registry Office of the ministry until January 31, 2025, the ministry said on Monday.

Tunisia’s state-owned electricity and gas company, STEG, will purchase the full output of the solar power plant through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). An October 2024 ministerial decision regulates the tariffs, setting the purchase prices for electricity generated from solar photovoltaic energy under concession agreements, the same source underlines.

Earlier this year, Tunisia awarded two solar projects totalling 330 MW. Dubai-based AMEA Power won a 200 MW project in the Tataouine governorate, southern Tunisia as part of a tender procedure. The second solar farm , which has a capacity of 130 MW, will be located near the city of Gafsa, in southwestern Tunisia. It will be built and operated by France’s Voltalia.
