Tunisia to hold parliamentary and presidential elections on Oct. 6 and Nov. 10

Parliamentary and presidential elections in Tunisia will be held on Octpber 6 and November 10, 2019, the Electoral High Election Authority (ISIE) said on Wednesday.

President of ISIE Nabil Baffoun said, at a press conference devoted to the presentation of the calendar of the 2019 legislative and presidential elections, that the first round of the presidential elections will take place on Sunday, November 10, 2019 and on November 8, 9 and 10, 2019 for Tunisians abroad.

“If one of the candidates does not obtain an absolute majority of the votes in the first round, a second round will be held within two weeks of the announcement of the final results of the first round. The appointment of the second round will be fixed by a decision from ISIE at the end of the first round,” Baffoun said.

The representatives of the parties and the components of civil society denounced the electoral calendar presented by ISIE, especially since they were not invited to take part in its elaboration.

In this connection, they expressed their concern about possible infringements that may occur during the election period, wondering whether the ISIE could take dissuasive decisions that would guarantee the transparency of the elections.
