Over 3.9 billion dinars for tourism receipts, up 42.1%, as of December 20, 2018

2018 turned out to be the best in the last ten years for Tunisia in tourism area.

Tourism receipts reached 42.1 percent as of December 20, 2018, compared to the same period of 2017, with more than 3.9 billion dinars, i.e. €1.2 billion (+ 23.8%) and $ 1.4 billion s (+ 30.13%), the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts reveals.

The total arrivals on December 31, 2018 evolved by 17.7%, compared to 2017, reaching 8.3 million arrivals including 2.4 million European tourists (+ 42%), while Maghreb tourists amounted to more than 4.3 million (+ 11%), Tunisians living abroad, 1.3 million (+ 5.3%), Chinese, 27.9 thousand (+ 37%) and tourists of different nationalities at 171.2 thousand (+ 20.5%).

The European tourists include the French who rank first reaching 781.6 thousand arrivals (+ 37.0%) in addition to the number of German tourists with a rate of 51.8% compared to 2017, 275,296 thousand arrivals.

Besides, 599 thousand Russians (+ 16.1%) and 756.2 thousand Europeans of different nationalities (+ 75.6%) visited Tunisia in 2018.

The Maghreb tourists concern the Algerians who are in the first place with 2.7 million arrivals (+ 9.2%), followed by Libyans (1.5 million or 14.0%) and other Maghreb of different nationalities (77.6 thousand, i.e. + 19.5%).

Overnight stays as of December 10, 2018, increased by 22.8% in 2018, reaching 26.139 million overnight stays, including 6.7 million overnight stays were spent in the Djerba-Zarzis region (+ 45.8% ).

The Sousse region comes second with 4.8 million overnight stays (+ 19.6%), followed by the Nabeul-Hammamet region with 4.1 million overnight stays (+ 20.9%), the Monastir-Skanes region (3 million overnight stays, + 28.9%), Yasmine Hammamet with 2.5 million overnight stays (+ 6.7%) and Tunis-Carthage Coasts with 1.6 million overnight stays (+6%).
