MBC Studios, the production arm of MBC Group, has announced the completion of the final editing stages of its latest feature film, “The Hell of Passersby,” ahead of its theatrical release in Saudi Arabia on November 19, with screenings in other Arab cities to follow, to be announced at a later date.
Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by acclaimed Saudi novelist and writer Osama Al-Muslim, the film marks the cinematic adaptation of one of his most successful works. Al-Muslim wrote the screenplay himself, while acclaimed Saudi filmmaker Hana Al-Omair takes the director’s chair. The film was shot entirely on location in Saudi Arabia and stars Adhwaa Bader, Basel Al-Sali, Mohammed Ali, Shujaa Nashat and Aziz Gharbawi.
Driven by suspense, mystery and psychological tension, “The Hell of Passersby” brings Al-Muslim’s distinctive literary world to the big screen. His work is known for delving into the depths of the human psyche through a blend of fantasy and psychological thriller elements, built around unconventional narratives, mysterious events and complex characters. Al-Omair’s direction adds a distinctive cinematic dimension, creating a compelling blend of suspense, mystery and horror, while the film’s cast delivers powerful performances that further intensify its atmosphere.
The story unfolds on a deserted road late at night, where a young woman driving alone comes across a young man whose car has broken down. Despite a strange feeling of unease, she decides to help him and offer him a ride to the nearest station. What begins as a simple act of kindness soon takes a terrifying turn, as a succession of mysterious and disturbing events transforms the journey into a real-life nightmare.
As the night grows darker and the twists come faster, the central question becomes increasingly haunting: Is escape possible, or is survival simply impossible? With its rapidly unfolding events and unexpected turns, the film keeps audiences on edge, building suspense all the way to its final scene.
The film is part of a broader collaboration between MBC Studios and Osama Al-Muslim, following a partnership announced approximately two years ago to adapt a number of his novels into television and cinematic productions.
“The Hell of Passersby” bears the creative imprint of producer Mahfouz Al-Zahrani, with Soufiane Al-Fani serving as director of photography and Aflam Production handling production services. The film is produced by MBC Studios, directed by Hana Al-Omair, and written by Osama Al-Muslim, based on his bestselling novel of the same name.
The film is distributed by Qanawat Distribution.
