U.S. embassy in Tunis hosts exhibition of Tunisian handicraft products

The U.S. embassy in Tunis hosted Wednesday afternoon, an exhibition featuring 25 artisans who displayed their Tunisian handicraft products

This initiative came within the framework of US government programme providing for five projects to promote Tunisian handicrafts in its various components.

The US government programme aimed to help Tunisian companies preserve their local traditions and share them worldwide with a wider audience through export, US Ambassador in Tunis Daniel Rubinstein told reporters.

The US government has invested $ 6.2 million in the craft sector in Tunisia since 2012, to export their products to international markets, including the US, he added.

These five projects are:

  • – “Creative Learning’s building export capacity”, provides technical expertise to 50 Tunisian artisans, to help them adapt their different products in order to meet international standards and to open new markets for export.
  • – “Family Health International” is a collaborative action for the export of handicrafts, focused on essential oils.
  • – “Export Lab” of the American Chamber of Commerce in Tunisia (AMCHAM) helps to increase and diversify the exports of 15 small and medium-sized handicraft enterprises, by providing incubation and information services on the market.
  • – Souk At-Tanmia: the project aims to identify, finance and support innovative projects at the local level to help them create sustainable jobs.
  • – The Sustainable Women’s Enterprise: the project supports aspiring and established women entrepreneurs who create and develop businesses in 10 regions in Tunisia.
