The U.S. Embassy in Tunis has officially opened the competition for the 2026 Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program, offering funded six-to-nine-month research residencies in the United States for qualified Tunisians.
The prestigious grants target experienced professionals, university faculty, and institutional researchers, providing a unique opportunity to advance their work at American institutions beginning in September 2026. The program is designed for holders of Ph.D.s or individuals with equivalent professional expertise.
“We are seeking highly motivated scholars to conduct research and share their knowledge,” a program representative stated. Priority fields include university administration, curriculum development, social and hard sciences, environmental and agricultural studies, humanities, arts, and business.
Successful candidates will be fully supported, with benefits covering all research expenses, a stipend, roundtrip airfare, and a monthly allowance for one accompanying dependent.
In addition to the core research grants, the embassy announced two other tracks:
- Lecturing Grants: One or two-semester positions for those with extensive teaching experience, requiring a confirmed invitation from a U.S. host institution.
- Short-Term Grants: Three-month awards for projects involving institutional needs assessments, faculty development consulting, or curriculum design.
Applicants for short-term grants who lack a formal invitation are advised to identify three U.S. institutions with facilities suitable for their proposed work.
All candidates must apply through the official online portal at [apply.iie.org/fvsp2026]. The deadline for submissions for the Fall 2026 cohort is Sunday, December 28, 2025.
Selected scholars will collaborate directly with American faculty associates and engage fully in the academic life of their host campus.
