The Tunisian National Theatre has announced a significant cultural achievement, with three of its acclaimed productions selected to compete in the official program of the 16th Arab Theatre Festival. The festival, organized by the Arab Theatre Authority in cooperation with Egypt’s Ministry of Culture, will take place in Cairo from January 10 to 16, 2026.
This triple selection spotlights the vitality and creative diversity of Tunisia’s contemporary theatre scene on a major regional platform.
The chosen productions are
- “Al-Hāribāt” (The Fleeing Women)
Written and directed by Wafa Al-Taboubi, this production is a joint endeavor of the Tunisian National Theatre and Fabula Production. - “Jacaranda”
Directed by Nizar Saïdi, based on a text by Abdelhalim Mesaoudi. The play is produced by the Young National Theatre. - “Keyma Al-Yawm” (Just Like Today)
Written, designed, and directed by Leïla Toubel. This work is co-produced by the Tunisian National Theatre and the company Resistart.
The inclusion of these three distinct works underscores the National Theatre’s commitment to supporting a wide spectrum of theatrical voices, from established auteurs to innovative co-productions. Their participation in the Cairo festival represents a key opportunity for artistic exchange and a celebration of Tunisian storytelling within the Arab world.
The 16th Arab Theatre Festival is expected to gather leading theatre companies, artists, and critics from across the region, making it one of the most prominent events on the Arab cultural calendar.
