The Tunisian African Business Council (TABC) announced Tuesday that the first Tunisian-Libyan Trade and Industry Development exhibition will be held in the city of Misrata from 16 to 18 January 2023.
Under the banner ‘‘Tunisia and Libya the Gateway to Africa’’, the events aim to strengthen the partnership between the two countries and pave the way for access to African markets.
This initiative came following an agreement between the Tunisian-Libyan Business Council and the Misrata Chamber of Commerce during the fourth session of the Tunisian-Libyan Economic Forum held in Sfax from October 12 to 13 this year.
TABC head Anis Jaziri told TAP that the event aims mainly at concentrating Tunisian institutions in the Misrata Free Zone to access African markets.
He said Misurata is the beating heart of the Libyan economy, and that companies, investors and traders from Tunisia and Libya who are active in all sectors will participate in this first exhibition.
Al-Jaziri said the volume of trade between Tunisia and Libya began to regain its pace, jumping from about 900 million Tunisian dinars in 2018 to 2,030 million dinars in a year. It also rose during the first eight months of 2022 to reach 2,000 million dinars, “however, these numbers remain far from the volume of exchanges before 2011, which exceeded 3,500 million dinars,” according to Al-Jaziri.
He said the TABC is working to support economic relations between the two countries by studying ways to open roads and concentrating on particular logistical areas to enable access to sub-Saharan African markets and to make the partnership between Tunisia and Libya a gateway to Africa.
