Tunisian ferry operator chooses Danish firm for new ship designs

Tunisian state-owned ferry operator Compagnie Tunisienne de Navigation (COTUNAV) has selected Danish naval architecture firm OSK Design to undertake design work on its future fleet of Ro-Pax and Ro-Ro vessels, bairdmaritime reports.

OSK Design said the new designs will focus on reliability, with advanced machinery and redundant systems to ensure continuous operation even in challenging maritime environments. Both designs will also be optimised for improved seakeeping and handling, ensuring safe and efficient operation in a wide range of conditions, the same source said.

The designs will also allow the vessels to adapt to evolving market demands and regulatory changes over time.

The new COTUNAV vessels will boast energy-efficient technologies and eco-friendly solutions to minimise emissions and reduce their overall environmental footprint. Advanced technologies will further enhance performance, reduce operating costs, and support the long-term sustainability of the fleet.

Once in service, the vessels will be operated on COTUNAV’s routes between Tunisia and France, Italy, and Spain via the Mediterranean Sea.
