The Tunisian government focuses on diversifying tourism by promoting ecological, cultural, Sahara, sports, and coastal attractions, enhancing service quality and infrastructure.

On Wednesday, a small Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sara Zaafrani Zenzri focused on diversifying Tunisia’s tourism offerings. The discussions aimed at expanding the nation’s tourism sector through support for ecological, cultural, Sahara, sports, medical, and coastal tourism, with an emphasis on creating an integrated, year-round tourism experience across multiple regions, each offering distinct attractions, as outlined in a statement from the Prime Ministry.

Key strategies to enhance tourism activity were discussed, including improving service quality, intensifying training programs for sector workers, and incentivizing tourism establishments to meet higher quality standards. Additionally, the meeting addressed the need to streamline procedures and enhance administrative services at air and seaports, border crossings, and ensure year-round support for both Tunisian expatriates and foreign visitors.

A major focus of the meeting was the comprehensive digitisation of the tourism sector. Prime Minister Zenzri highlighted the importance of developing digital content to position Tunisia as an attractive destination while digitalising services provided by all stakeholders within the sector. She called for increased support for entrepreneurs and startups working on digital platforms that promote Tunisia’s tourist offerings.

Prime Minister Zenzri also stressed the need to stimulate tourism investment, engaging both local and international investors to develop essential infrastructure. She emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among all ministries and regional structures, along with regular on-the-ground follow-ups, to mobilize resources, address concerns of sector professionals, and enhance the competitiveness of Tunisia’s tourism industry, both regionally and globally.

The Prime Minister commended the tourism sector’s improved performance, recognizing its crucial role in driving economic growth, creating jobs, and strengthening the nation’s foreign exchange reserves through tourism revenue.
