Omani women celebrate their annual day ( October 17)

Omani women are a pioneering example of successful models in various fields, and their excellence did not come out of a vacuum, but by believing in their giving and their ability to contribute to building the present and future of their homeland, the Sultanate of Oman, crowned by the constant support of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.

His Majesty emphasised the pivotal role of women in building society and continuing development, and His Majesty issued high directives to enhance the status of Omani women, and ensure their empowerment in the social, political and economic spheres.

The Social Security Law, promulgated by Royal Decree No. (52/2023), was one of the main gains for Omani women, as it included many basic benefits that benefit various segments of society.

Omani women’s rights were particularly covered in most social security benefits, with 25 per cent of Omani women benefiting from at least one area of social security. 5 per cent of female beneficiaries of at least one area of social security, 32 per cent of Omani women aged 60 years and above who received pensions and 38 per cent of Omani women who received maternity benefits until the end of 2023.

In order to empower the economic and social status of women in the Arab region, the Sultanate of Oman has been keen to develop the potential of women and activate the economic environment for them, as the economic participation rate of women increased from 2020 to 2023 by (30.6%) to (34%) by the end of 2023. 9%) by the end of 2023, and (67%) the share of women entrepreneurs of small enterprises in the total amount of financing disbursed to women entrepreneurs in 2023, and (90%) of craftswomen who obtained licences to practice home activities during 2023, as well as an increase in the numerical development of Omani women investors from (36. 355) in 2022 to (37,375) by the end of 2023, and an increase in the numerical development in 2023 of the general tenure of Omani women out of the total Omani owners (land, housing units, vehicles) compared to 2022.

Omani women recorded a clear presence and role in administrative positions and the judiciary, as the participation rate of women increased to 21 per cent of Omani women in administrative positions in 2023 compared to 16 per cent in 2020, and the percentage of Omani women in the judiciary reached (39 per cent) in 2023 compared to (29 per cent) in 2022.

Believing in the importance of creating a stimulating environment for innovation and investing efforts and resources in promoting creative thinking to achieve sustainable progress and improve the quality of life for individuals and societies, Muscat was declared the capital of Arab women for 2024 during the 43rd session of the Arab Women’s Committee of the League of Arab States, chaired by the Sultanate of Oman, in February 2024, an achievement that adds to Oman’s record of supporting Omani, Arab and regional women.
