Bill Bazzi formally began his tenure as the United States Ambassador to Tunisia on Friday, presenting his credentials to President Kais Saied in a ceremony at Carthage Palace.
Ambassador Bazzi, appointed by President Donald J. Trump, will be the chief representative advancing U.S. interests and strengthening bilateral ties, with a focus on shared priorities in regional security and economic prosperity.
“It is an honor to represent the United States in Tunisia, and I am eager for the work ahead,” Bazzi said following the ceremony. “Together, we can write the next chapter of our shared story—one of collaboration, opportunity, and lasting friendship.”
The new ambassador brings a diverse background to the role. He is a decorated U.S. Marine veteran and served as the Mayor of Dearborn Heights, Michigan. His professional experience also includes roles at major U.S. corporations Boeing and Ford Motor Company.
In outlining his agenda, Bazzi stated his focus would be on expanding American exports, fostering a balanced trade relationship, and strengthening defense and security cooperation between the two nations.
The diplomatic appointment marks a new phase in the 228-year-old relationship between the United States and Tunisia, which has historically centered on areas of national security, counter-terrorism, and trade.
