Medina Festival from March 4 to 28

Performances ranging from Malouf, Sufi chanting, Halabi Qudood, and theater

The 41st edition of the Medina Festival, which will take place from March 4 to 28, promises a mix of Malouf, Halabi qudoud, musical innovation through visions and youthful voices that meet with the sheikhs of originality and tarab, and theater.

This was revealed by the managing body of the Medina Festival during a press conference held on Wednesday morning at the Asram House in the old city.

// Performances that take into account the potential of Tunisia and harmonize with the festival’s non-profit objectives

The head of the Medina Festival Association, Chadli Ben Younes, emphasized that due to competition from other commercial events with huge material resources and given the non-profit cultural mission of the festival, which takes into account the means of the Tunisian citizen, the managing body sought to contract with a number of creators to provide musical performances at affordable prices.

Ben Younes added that the festival authority received more than 100 artistic files for this session, among which 28 performances were selected, ranging from Tarbian, Sufi, jazz, and youth music, and the festival will witness evenings to revive Mouashahat and Halabi Qudoud, in addition to a special performance by the musician Mohamed Abdel Wahab presented by the artist Faisal Al-Raihi, in addition to an evening honoring the Tunisian Malouf with the participation of the “Rashidiya” band and Dersaf Al-Hamdani.

// Shows with proceeds going to charity

In keeping with the festival’s non-commercial ethos, revenues from a number of performances will benefit charities, such as Raouf Maher’s performance on March 20 at the Municipal Theater, whose proceeds will go to support villages for underprivileged children. The proceeds from the Sufi performances from Nafta and Testour will fund the purchase of equipment for hospitals.

The performances will be held, as usual, in the spaces of the old city, such as Dar Al-Asram, the Bir Al-Ahjar School, the Taher Al-Haddad Cultural Club, as well as the Municipal Theater, with the inclusion of a new space, the “St. Croix” church on the approach to the Zaytouna Mosque, which joined the meeting of the cultural spaces of the old city.

From Sufi performances to Malouf and Halabi qudoud to Ghalia Ben Ali, Chokri Omar Hannachi, Adnan Chaouachi, Souad Ben Slimane, Fadel Jaziri, Dorsaf Hamdani, Raouf Maher, and others, the Medina Festival audience will have a date with artistic packages that fit the spirit of Ramadan, the month of spirituality and authenticity.
