For the twelfth consecutive year, the Malmö Arab Film Festival (MAF) is launching its initiative to support and fund film projects in the development stage through its Industry Days platform. The project support fund aims to assist feature and short films at various production phases, while also creating opportunities for co-production and collaboration between Arab filmmakers and their counterparts in the Nordic region.
The industry forum will also feature a rich program of seminars, workshops, masterclasses, and professional networking sessions, establishing it as a comprehensive platform for project development and professional growth.
Eligibility and Co-production Focus
The submission criteria highlight a focus on international partnership. For feature-length projects, the film must be planned as an official co-production between an Arab applicant (producer or director) and a Swedish partner. For short films, the applicant must hold citizenship or be a resident of a Nordic or Baltic country. These specific co-production requirements do not apply to projects applying for post-production support.
Bridging Cinematic Cultures
Mohammad Kablawi, Founder and CEO of the Malmö Arab Film Festival, emphasized the festival’s mission: “We are consistently working to build bridges between Arab and Scandinavian cinema and to support filmmakers at every stage of their project’s development. This year’s forum allows us to offer new opportunities for collaboration, discussion, and learning, making each project a rich and diverse experience. Our goal is for each edition to be an opportunity to launch new projects and enrich Arab cinema on a global scale.”
The 16th edition of the Malmö Arab Film Festival will be held from April 10-16, 2026, with the 12th edition of the Malmö Film Industry Days running from April 11-14, 2026.
