The Red Sea International Film Festival has announced that its fifth edition will open with the highly anticipated boxing drama “Giant”, directed by British-Indian filmmaker Rowan Athale. The film tells the inspiring true story of British-Yemeni boxing legend Prince Naseem “Naz” Hamed and will have its Middle East and North Africa premiere on December 4, 2025.
“Giant” stars Egyptian-British actor Amir El-Masry as Prince Naseem Hamed, tracing his remarkable journey from humble beginnings in Sheffield to becoming a world champion and one of the most iconic figures in British boxing. The film also explores his powerful bond with his Irish trainer, Brendan Ingle, whose mentorship played a pivotal role in shaping Naz’s extraordinary career.
The movie delves into the challenges and prejudice Naz faced during the 1980s and 1990s, highlighting how he rose above racism and Islamophobia to become a global symbol of resilience, pride, and excellence in sports. Through its emotional storytelling, “Giant” offers audiences a deeply human portrait of the boxer’s triumphs, struggles, and the relationship that defined his path to greatness.
Faisal Baltyuor, CEO of the Red Sea Film Foundation, said:
“Our choice of ‘Giant’ to open the fifth edition is a celebration of regional talent making waves on the global stage.
