The African Development Bank (AfDB) on Thursday pledged to continue financial and technical support to Tunisia to help implement reforms and development projects.
AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina met with Minister of Investment, Development and International Cooperation Zied Laadhari, the ministry report in a statement.
At the meeting, Adesina said his visit aimed to show the interest of the AfDB in Tunisia as a major partner.
“There are new perspectives for cooperation in the next stage including energy, environment, regional development and public sector. The AfDB will support the private sector to generate employment opportunities for young people,” AfDB President added.
The overall financing by the AfDB Group in Tunisia amounts to about 8 billion euros (about 8.94 billion U.S. dollars), which has funded 155 projects, including 41 in the private sector.
Besides, the volume of investment by the AfDB in Tunisia reached $ 1.4 billion (nearly 4.2 billion dinars) in various areas such as energy, transportation, telecommunications, water, technology… AfDB President also said after his meeting Thursday afternoon with Prime Minister Youssef Chahed.
He reiterated the bank’s support to Tunisia, which is more than 55 years old, stressing that the country remains its privileged partner, the Prime Ministry said in a statement.
Adesina said the issue of youth was also raised, recalling that the bank has spent a large budget to help Tunisia create jobs for this group.
The meeting also focused on the need to ensure basic infrastructure in rural areas to help farmers create large irrigated areas, which could give a fresh impetus to the agricultural sector and create a favourable business climate for foreign investors.
