The 46th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) feted Palestinian-Swedish filmmaker Mohamed Keblawi, founder of the Malmö Arab Film Festival (MAFF), in a ceremony celebrating his pivotal role in advancing Arab cinema across Northern Europe and Scandinavia.
Under the leadership of its president, esteemed actor Hussein Fahmy, the festival recognized Keblawi’s distinguished career and his success in building a vital cultural bridge. Fahmy hailed Keblawi’s work as “central” to strengthening Arab cinema’s presence on the international festival circuit.

In accepting the honor, Keblawi expressed his profound gratitude, describing the tribute as a meaningful acknowledgment of years of dedication. He also thanked the Egyptian Embassy in Sweden for its sustained support, noting it reflects Egypt’s broader commitment to promoting Arab culture worldwide.
In an emotionally resonant gesture, Keblawi dedicated the award to the children of Palestine, stating that their enduring suffering remains in the heart of every artist and person with a message.
The tribute underscores CIFF’s ongoing mission to celebrate Arab figures who have expanded the global reach and influence of Arab cinema.
