World Bank supports new $125 million health project in Tunisia

The World Bank is supporting a new $125 million health project in Tunisia, the Ministry of Health revealed on the sidelines of Wednesday’s meeting between minister Mustapha Ferjani and a delegation from the World Bank, led by Resident chief of mission Alexander Arrobio and director for North Africa Michael Granolatti.

This program, funded by the Global Fund for Epidemics, aims to strengthen health services in Tunisia. The project axes include strengthening health response capacities, supporting the Strategic Operations Center and the Emergency and Resuscitation Teams (Smur); advanced epidemiological surveillance, thanks to the implementation of a digital system for data collection and analysis; modernized health governance, through the optimization of human resources management and health data.

The program will also allow for the provision of high-quality facilities clinics and hospitals in priority areas, as part of the process of modernization of Primary Health Centers, undertaken by the Tunisian authorities. Specialized diagnostic laboratories will also be established, thus expanding prevention and early diagnosis programs. An integral part of the project is digitalization, i.e. the generalization of technology to improve the efficiency of medical follow-up and the establishment of a comprehensive information system for hospitals.

Minister of Health, Mustapha Ferjani, reiterated the executive’s commitment to accelerate the implementation of the project, thanking the World Bank for its support. Representatives of the international institution expressed appreciation for Tunisia’s ability to execute “rapidly and effectively” health cooperation projects, describing this program as an important step forward in the collaboration with Tunisia to improve health services in the country.
